Itinerary 

Day 1
  • On your arrival in Sri Lanka, you will be welcomed and assisted by a representative of AdithyaLanka Holidays and you will be then proceeding to Kandy en route visit Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

PINNAWELA ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE – App. 55 miles from Colombo, off the Colombo Kandy road is Pinnawela, where an orphanage was started in 1975 to house the abandoned and the wounded elephants. The number of elephants has increased to more than 40 now, including baby elephants brought from various parts, as well as the babies born, as a result of the captive breeding programmed. The best time to visit is the feeding time from 0930-1000 hrs and 1330-1400 hrs and the bathing time from 1000-1030 hrs and 1400-1430 hrs when all the elephants are taken to the river close by.

KANDY– the hill capital of Sri Lanka, where the annual Kandy Perahera is conducted. The last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings was finally ceded to the British in 1815. Kandy is an example of Buddhism’s influence in Sri Lanka today. Temple’s shrines and monasteries keeping alive Buddhist traditions are everywhere

Day 2
  • After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya en route visit Peradeniya Botanical Garden / Gem musuem / Batik factory  and  a Tea Factory

CEYLON GEMS – industry has a very long and colorful history. Sri Lanka was affectionately known as Ratna-Dweepa which means Gem Island. The name is a reflection of its natural wealth. Marco Polo wrote that the island had the best sapphires, topazes, amethysts, and other gems in the world.[1]Ptolemy, the 2nd century astronomer recorded that beryl and sapphire were the mainstay of Sri Lanka’s gem industry. Records from sailors that visited the island states that they brought back “jewels of Serendib”. Serendib was the ancient name given to the island by middle – eastern and Persian traders that crossed the Indian Ocean to trade gems from Sri Lanka to the East during the 4th and 5th century.

BATIKS – Sri Lankan batik industry has a history of over 400 years. History reveals that Sri Lankan villagers have been engaged in the batik industry from the time the Portuguese arrived in the country. It is said that batik was introduced by Portuguese merchants who visited the country for trade activities. Even in Portugal people were engaged in batik manufacturing industry. The industry was thereafter expanded to the maximum during the British colonial era which ended in 1948.The local batik industry showed a significant improvement during the early part of 1980 with the introduction of the Open Economy in Sri Lanka

ROYAL BOTANICAL GARDENSPERADENIYA-Visit the world famous Botanical Gardens, 147 acres in extent. In 1374 it was a pleasure garden of the Kings of Kandy.  There are more than 5000 species of orchids, spice trees, palms, tropical plants & flowers. The Spice Garden and Orchid House are popular with tourists.

TEA EXPERIENCE– which involves a visit a plantation to observe firsthand the process, starting from the plucking field where it all begins with the picking of “two leaves and a bud” to the factory where the processing begins. Originally introduced to the island around 1850 by the British, Ceylon Tea is world famous for its high quality and has remained a major contributor to the island’s economy for generations. Currently, Sri Lanka is one of largest exporter of tea worldwide. The high altitudes produce the best flavors, so Sri Lanka’s hill-country is the ideal environment to grow the most flavorsome tea. A guided tour around a Tea Factory is an enlightening experience.

NUWARA ELIYA– The ‘Little England’ of Sri Lanka, is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. It is supposed to be one of the coldest places on the island, but it is really just like an English spring day, although the temperature does drop at night. All around NuwaraEliya you will see evidence of the British influence. Houses are like country cottages or Queen Ann style mansions

Day 3
  • After breakfast proceeds to Horton Plains National Park.

 HORTON PLAINS NATIONAL PARK– 20 miles (32 km) from NuwaraEliya via Ambewela     and Pattipola, is the Horton Plains only 3160 hectares in extent. Known to Sri Lankan as Mahaweliya, it became Horton Plains after Sir Robert Horton, British Governor from 1831- 1837.Horton Plains became a Nature Reserve in 1969 and upgraded as a National Park in 1988 due to its    unique watershed and bio-diversity values.

  • In the evening proceed back to your hotel

OVER NIGHT STAY AT NUWARA ELIYA

Day 4
  • After breakfast proceed to Hikkaduwa

HIKKADUWA-is one of the famous beach resorts in the south coast of the Island. The beautiful Coral Reef in shallow water, protected by a rock formation is an excellent place for viewing the corals. Denizens of fantastically beautiful coral fish swimming among them attracts many for snorkeling, diving. Tourists interested in viewing them can do so from the comforts of a glass-bottomed boat.

OVER NIGHT STAY AT HIKKADUWA

Day 5
  • After breakfast proceed to Colombo en route visit Turtle Hatchery Farm at Bentota

TURTLE HATCHERY FARM –Sri Lanka’s first and original turtle hatchery is 5km (3miles) south of Induruwa in Kosgoda reputedly the best beach for turtle-watching and signposted off the Galle Road. If you have not had your fill of baby turtles already, the Victor Hasselblad Turtle Hatchery stays open daily from 6am -6pm

COLOMBO – a drive through the city taking you to the busy commercial areas as well as the tree-lined residential, Cinnamon Gardens. Visit Fort, the former British administrative center and military garrison, Sea Street – the Goldsmith’s quarters in the heart of Pettah, the Bazaar area, where is also a Hindu Temple with elaborate stone carvings and the Dutch Church of Wolfe dhal dating back to 1749. Also visit the BMICH, see the replica of Avukana Buddha, the Independence Square and Gangaramaya Temple

  • After lunch commence a City Tour and Shopping at Colombo.

COLOMBO SHOPPING – The best place for buying gemstones is Ratnapura, the “gem city” of Sri Lanka. If bought from Colombo one should confine only to the reputed gem centers. The best wooden masks are found in Ambalangoda. Odel Pvt Ltd, Colombo 7; Majestic City, Galle Road, Colombo 4 and Liberty Plaza, R. A. DemelMawatha, Colombo 3 are the best shopping centers in Colombo.

Day 6

After breakfast you will be transferred to the Airport for your departure flight
